Majid no to Sharjah benefit

Former Pakistani captain Majid Khan on Friday refused an offer of financial benefit from an October series between Sri Lanka, India and Zimbabwe.

"I have played cricket for my country and not to take reward from any other country," Khan told AFP.

The Cricketers' Benefit Fund Series (CBFS) in the Gulf emirate of Sharjah has given a total of 35,OOO dollars in pay-outs to former cricketers, mainly from Pakistan and India, over the last 2O years.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in July nominated Khan and fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz as beneficiaries for October's three-nation series. The CBFS approved the nominations last month.

Nawaz has accepted the offer and will go to Sharjah to receive the benefit cheque.

Khan, also a former PCB chief executive, said he had been nominated without his consent.

"They had announced my name without even taking my consent. Even otherwise I would not have accepted the offer," he said.
