Sinclair scintillates for Kiwis
Matthew Sinclair stroked the highest Test score by a New Zealander
against South Africa -- 150 -- on the second day of the
second Test on Friday.
At the close South Africa were 123 for three, 175 runs
behind the touring side's first innings of 298.
New Zealand, who resumed on 276 for eight, were
dismissed in the sixth over after lunch. The innings was
anchored by Sinclair whose 150 was scored in 6-1/4
hours, came off 321 balls and included 23 fours and a
six.
South African fast bowlers Shane Pollock and Allan
Donald took four for 64 and four for 69 respectively.
Sinclair and Shayne O'Connor, who scored 20 in two
hours, shared a stand of 73 - one short of the record New
Zealand eighth-wicket partnership against South Africa.
Boeta Dippenaar and Gary Kirsten put on 81 runs for the
first South African wicket, with Kirsten third out for 49
when he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Adam
Parore off fast bowler Kerry Walmsley. Dippenaar scored
35.
South Africa won the first Test by five wickets.
