Indian women win again
South Africa beat The Netherlands by four wickets and India beat England by eight runs, in the women's cricket World Cup on Monday.
It was the third successive victory for the Indians from as many matches and was built around a fine allround performance from Rupanjali Shashtri.
Batting first, India could muster only 155 runs
from their allotted 50 overs, with the help of good knocks from
Chandrakanta Kaul (45), Mithali Raj (32) and Rupanjali Shastri
(29). For England, S C Taylor and C J Connors accounted for
two wickets each.
The English team could not handle the accurate bowling of
Rupanajali, Deepa Kulakarni and Smitha Harikrishna and were
bundled out for 147 runs in 49.2 overs.
While Rupanjali was the main wrecker, capturing 3/25, Deepa
and Smitha accounted for two wickets each.
India and Australia are atop of the table, with six points each from three matches.
