Premier's XI beats West Indies

The struggling West Indian tourists went down to an embarrassing four-wicket defeat to the Australian Prime Minister's XI in Canberra on Thursday.

Set 231 to win, the home side scored 233 for six with nine balls to spare.

Canberra's Anthony McGuire top-scored with 57, while Queensland's Martin Love scored 56.

Earlier, West Indies Test duo Darren Ganga and Jimmy Adams gained much needed batting practice. Ganga, who gave the West Indies a bright opening stand of 62 with Sherwin Campbell, was out for 97 in an innings that included two sixes and eight fours.

Ridley Jacobs finished on 22 not out while Adams remained unbeaten on 59 as the tourists made 230 for three off their 50 overs.

However, Brian Lara, who has scored just 21 runs in four Test innings so far this summer, was not playing. Lara's atrocious form in Australia has seen him drop out of the world's top 10 batsmen for the first time since 1994.
