Yuvraj is Castrol junior cricketer of the year

Yuvraj Singh, the Indian cricket team's latest star, has been selected as Castrol Junior Cricketer of the year. The award carries Rs 50,000 in cash.

Yuvraj was picked from a group of other youngsters including Niraj Patel, the left hand Gujarat batsman; Shalabh Srivastava, the left arm medium pacer from Uttar Pradesh and two other Punjabis -- Reetinder Singh Sodhi and Ravneet Ricky.

Yuvraj made news in the last ICC trophy at Nairobi with match-winning knocks against South Africa and Australia though in the recent series against Zimbabwe he is struggling. Before moving to the senior India side he had compiled huge scores in the Cooch Behar under-19 tournament and also the under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka.

The winner was selected by a panel comprising former senior coach Anshuman Gaekwad, junior coach Roger Binny and journalist Pradeep Vijaykar. The four who lost out on the award will receive Rs 25,000 each.
