Mumbai to take part in a one-day tourney in Australia
Ranji champions Mumbai would take part in a one-day cricket tournament to be held at WACA
grounds in Perth from March 29 to April 4, 2001.
The tournament will include current domestic champions from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India.
The secretary of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Prof
Ratnakar Shetty said on Sunday that his association was informed about the invitation by fax and the Indian cricket board (BCCI) had confirmed Mumbai's participation to the Australian Cricket Board (ACB).
The Western Warriors, Western Australia's state cricket
team are the Mercantile Mutual Cup champions for 1999-2000
while the winners of the South Africa's Standard Bank Cup and
New Zealand's Shell Cup are yet to be decided.
This day-night tournament will be played as per ICC
one-day international rules with a white cricket ball and
coloured clothes. This is the second time in one year that
Mumbai team has been invited for a tour abroad.
A trip to Nairobi was cancelled by hosts Kenya Cricket
Association (KCA) after Indian batting maestro Sachin
Tendulkar was not available for the tournament.
This time around too, he would be busy doing duty for his
country against the touring Aussie cricketers who would be
arriving here on February 7 to play three test matches and
five one-dayers apart from three-day games.
