Cronje, Donald meet
Allan Donald and Hansie Cronje met for the first time since the former South African captain was banned for
life following a match-fixing scandal, according to a
newspaper report.
The Bloemfontein Afrikaans language daily Die Volksblad
reported that Cronje visited Donald's home in the town last week. It was their first meeting since April.
It quoted Donald as saying: "He came round for a coffee
and we had a good chat."
Cronje was sacked as South African captain after
admitting he took money from bookmakers. He denies
fixing matches and is currently challenging his life ban.
The paper said Cronje would be thinking of Donald as the
fast bowler bids to become the first South African to take
300 test wickets in the first test against New Zealand,
starting at Bloemfontein on Friday.
"I'll be thinking of Allan, even though I won't actually be
there," said Cronje. "I know the Free State people will
give him the support he needs to reach the milestone
and they will give him recognition for it."
Donald is currently three wickets short of the mark.
