Chappell remains in running

Greg Chappell said Wednesday he is still in the running to be India's next cricket coach.

Former Australian captain Chappell said the Board of Control for Cricket in India is still in the preliminary stages of its decision-making process.

The current South Australian cricket manager was interviewed for the Indian job in Madras earlier this week.

"We talked about my philosophy on coaching, they're basically doing their homework as to what they want to do from here," Chappell said on Wednesday.

"I don't really want to speculate. I was quite happy to talk to them and if at the end of the day they offer something, I would have to consider it.

"But I'd have to consider it in the light of a lot of things and as for speculating on whether I would or I wouldn't, quite honestly I'll wait until the time comes."

Former New Zealand batsman John Wright and former Australian coach Geoff Marsh are also to be interviewed by the Indian board.

Chappell said he had never had an ambition to coach a national team, but had also never planned to coach a state team before the South Australian job was offered to him.

"I've got a pretty open mind about a lot of things," he said.

"I discussed it with the Australian Cricket Board 12 months or more ago about the Australian job and there may be some other opportunities.

"While I'm still involved in coaching there may be other people that want to talk to me from time to time.

"I've got an open mind, I'm prepared to listen then make some decisions."

Chappell turned down an offer to coach English county side Glamorgan last December, saying he did not want to be away from Australia for too long.

He is contracted to the South Australian Cricket Association until next March.
