BCCI AGM will not discuss coach's report

For the first time in the 70-year history of the BCCI, the agenda on review and consideration of the coach's reports will not be taken up at its Annual General Meeting, as former coach Kapil Dev has not submitted them.

BCCI sources said Kapil Dev, who stepped down as coach on Monday and spoke about the need for professionalism in the board, had not "cared to submit his reports".

On Wednesday, when BCCI president A C Muthiah was asked if Kapil Dev had submitted his reports, he said it was for Kapil Dev to answer whether he had done so. "If it has been sent, it would only be in the possession of the president," he had said.

The sources clarified that Kapil had been appointed coach at the Jaipur AGM for a two-year term, on Sept 22 last year. His first stint was against the visiting New Zealand team. He then coached the team for the Sharjah tourney before the Australian tour and then the ICC tournament in Dhaka. The loss of the home series under Kapil against South Africa was his last assignment.

Asked whether the BCCI had not bungled by not insisting on the reports from Kapil, the source said: "We can only remind him, but Kapil has to provide it.

"Kapil Dev cannot plead ignorance for not giving his report as he had regularly given his report as captain."
