Match observer Kajaria issued summons

The Goa police on Tuesday issued summons to Board of Control for Cricket in India match observer K P Kajaria, asking him to report at its headquarters on April 30.

The summons were issued in connection with the investigations into the fake tickets scam for the One-Day International cricket match between India and Australia on April 6.

Police sources said fresh summons under section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code have also been issued to Kajaria to ensure his presence since he failed to turn up for interrogation on Monday despite being summoned.

''We may take appropriate legal action to secure the presence of Mr Kajaria if he does not respond to the summons,'' they added.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Kajaria faxed a message to the Margao police on Monday expressing his inability to report to the police station. He said he has to submit his report on the April 6 match to the BCCI and its president A C Muthiah.

He is also believed to have stated that he has nothing to do with the ticket scam, printing, sales and distribution of tickets, as his role was only to oversee the arrangements inside the stadium.

Although the police had sought the presence of BCCI secretary Jaywant Lele earlier, the board deputed its executive secretary Sharad Diwadkar to reply to its queries, regarding the board's guidelines for the conduct of an international cricket match.
