Goa government to move SC on Narvekar bail

The Goa government will approach the Supreme Court against the High
Court order to grant conditional anticipatory bail to Goa Cricket Association president and former deputy Chief Minister Dayanand Narvekar and GCA
secretary Vinod Phadke.
"Our team along with the additional Advocate General is already in Delhi," said DIG of Police Karnal Singh. "They are hopeful of getting the High Court
order reversed as the apex court had rejected one such anticipatory bail
application last week itself."
Meanwhile, with the High Court suspending Narvekar and Phadte from office for a month, a group within the GCA is gearing to set the house in order.
"We have convened a meeting of the managing committee tomorrow [Saturday] evening to
take stock of the situation and appoint an acting president and secretary," said GCA vice-president Sudin Dhawalikar, who is also a legislator, presently supporting the ruling BJP government.
The GCA will also explore the possibility of expelling treasurer Rama Shankardas, who was arrested by the police a fortnight ago for his alleged involvement in the bogus tickets racket along with
contractor Chinmay Fallari. Both have now been released on bail.
While the GCA needs at least a two-thirds of majority to remove any office-bearer, Dr Shekhar Salkar, another GCA official and BJP activist, feels the association should convene a general body meeting to take any decision on expulsions if they are unable to garner enough support within the managing committee.
