Muthiah optimistic about clearance

Onkar Singh

Board of Control for Cricket in India president A C Muthiah called on Sports and Youth Affairs minister Uma Bharti at her office in Shastri Bhavan, Delhi, and discussed the board's proposal to send the cricket team to Pakistan.

After the meeting, which lasted 30 minutes, Muthiah said he is "optimistic" about the government clearing the tour.

"I had a good meeting with the minister. I told her about our proposal and she was receptive to the idea of sending cricket team to Pakistan. We had a good and cordial meeting. I am very optimistic about getting the government's clearance," Muthiah told rediff.com, adding the BCCI will wait for the clearance till August 30.

The team is scheduled to leave for Pakistan in the first week of September.

Meanwhile, Bharti said she is waiting for a decision by the Ministry of External Affairs.

"I have sent them the proposal with my comments and I am now awaiting a reply. I will communicate the same to the media as soon as I hear from them," she told newsmen.
