Twenty-one of South Africa's top bowlers will participate in a three-day bowling clinic in Johannesburg next week.
National team assistant coach Corrie van Zyl and United Cricket Board of
South Africa (UCBSA) director of coaching Anton Ferreira will host the
clinic for pace and spin bowlers as part of the preparations for the new
season that begins with the South African spring next month.
The bowlers who will attend the clinic are from the country's provincial
teams and have featured in or are being groomed for inclusion in
the national side.
The clinic will be held at the Rand Afrikaans University here from
20 to 22 August. All aspects of bowling will be covered over the three days
through lectures, nets and video analysis.
On Tuesday, national team batsmen Herschelle Gibbs and Gary Kirsten have
been invited to face the bowlers at the nets.
"This is one of the steps we are taking to ensure that our national bowlers
are kept in perfect shape, as well as to allow us to work with the bowlers
who we believe are on the fringes of national selection or are showing tremendous promise," said Ferreira.
Besides Ferreira and Van Zyl, the bowlers will be coached or lectured by
Eric Simons, current South African captain Shaun Pollock, Allan Donald, Alan
Kourie, Mark O'Donnell, Omar Henry and Adrian Birrell.
