Slater dropped for final Test

Australian batsman Michael Slater has been dropped for this week's fifth Ashes cricket Test against England, he said on Wednesday.

Although Australia's selectors were still to name their team to play the final Test starting at the Oval on Thursday, Slater told a Sydney radio station he had lost his place in the team to Justin Langer.

"The powers that be have looked for a change and I've been replaced by Justin Langer," Slater said.

"It's great for him. He's had a disappointing tour and he gets a breath of fresh air at the end of it, but it's hard to take when you've been dropped."

Slater has scored 170 runs at an average of 24.28 in the first four Tests of the Ashes.

Langer was dropped before the first test. He was replaced by Damien Martyn who has scored 310 runs, including two centuries, at 77.50.
