Parthiv Patel to lead India under-19

Parthiv Patel of Gujarat will lead the 14-member Indian cricket team for the under-19 World Cup, to be held in New Zealand next month.

Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Niranjan Shah said the junior selection committee, which met in Bangalore on Monday morning, also selected Y Gnaneswara Rao of Andhra as the vice-captain.

Former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar will be the team consultant.

The team: Parthiv Patel (captain) and Siddharth Trivedi (both from Gujarat), Y Gnaneswara Rao (Andhra), Manvinder Bisla (Haryana), Deepak Chowgale and Stuart Binny (both from Karnataka), Irfan Pathan (Baroda), Chandrasekhar Atram (Vidarbha), Rakesh Mohanty (Orissa), Abishek Sharma (Delhi), Khanin Sekia (Assam), Chandan Madan (Punjab), Mohnish Mishra (MP) and Paul Valthaty (Mumbai).

Standbys: T Suman (Hyderabad), G Shankar Rao (Andhra), Alind Naidu (Vidarbha), Nitin Agarwal (Haryana) and Timil Patel (Gujarat).
