Statistical highlights - 1st Test at Mumbai (1st day)

** This Test was the 18th to be played at this venue since 1974-75. Wankhede Stadium has now played host to more Test matches than the Brabourne Stadium, which from 1948-49 to 1972-73 has seen 17 Tests. In all this was the 36th Test to be played in Mumbai, inclusive of the first ever Test on Indian soil at the Bombay Gymkhana ground in 1933-34. Incidentally Calcutta has hosted 30 Tests from 1933-34.

** Surat born Rahul Sanghvi who plays for Delhi became the 234th player to appear for India in Tests.

** Pace bowler Javagal Srinath was appearing in his 50th Test match of his career since his debut in 1991-92. He becomes the 18th Indian and 165th player in Test history to appear in 50 or more Tests.

** Mark Waugh was appearing in his 88th consecutive Test match. He has not missed a single Test for Australia since 1993. Now only former teammate Allan Border (153 matches) and Indian Sunil Gavaskar (106) have played more Tests in a row than Waugh.

** The wicket of SS Das was Jason Gillespie's 200th of his first-class career in his 56th match.

** The partnership of 75 runs between Sachin Tendukar and VVS Laxman was India's best against Australia at this venue for the fifth wicket. The pair surpasses the previous best of 32 runs between Yashpal Sharma and Syed Kirmani in November 1979.

** Tendulkar during his innings of 76 became the only third batsman to aggregate over 500 runs at this venue. Only Gavaskar (1122 runs) and Dilip Vengsarkar (631) have scored more. At the end of his innings Tendulkar has 539 runs (avg. 67.38) in five Tests and 8 innings at the Wankhede Stadium.

** Pace bowler Glenn McGrath has now taken Tendulkar' wicket on four occasions - the maximum by an Australian bowler.

** Leg-spinner Shane Warne's 4-47 was statistically his best bowling figures against India in Tests. On two other occasions he has taken four wickets in an innings - 4-85 at Chepauk in March 1998 and 4-92 at Adelaide in December 1999.

** McGrath's three wickets has taken his tally of wickets to 312, which places him in the 13th position among the all-time list of Test bowlers. In this innings he went past Lance Gibbs (309), Muthiah Muralitharan (310) and Allan Donald (311).
