Best bowling performance by a South African captain

Shaun Pollock's 6-30 in Sri Lanka's first innings at Cape Town was statistically the best ever bowling performance by a South African captain in Tests. The previous best was the 6-87 by pace bowler 'Buster' Nupen against England way back in December in 1930 at the Old Wanderers Ground at Johannesburg.

Shaun Pollock Incidentally Nupen also claimed 5-63 in the first innings of the Test. The other South African captain to take a 'fiver' was left arm pace bowler Trevor Goddard when he claimed 5-60 against Australia at Adelaide in January 1964.

Just for the record, the best bowling performance by a captain in Tests belongs to India's Kapil Dev when he claimed 9-83 against West Indies at Ahmedabad in November 1983 (but India had lost the match).
