Zimbabwe clinch one-day cricket series against NZ

New Zealand succumbed to a late boundary barrage by Heath Streak and a brilliant half century by Andy Flower as Zimbabwe clinched their one-day cricket series here Sunday by a wicket.

Captain Streak smashed a six off Craig McMillan in the penultimate over to snatch the unlikely series win -- their first away from home.

Streak whacked five sixes and four boundaries in his unbeaten 79, his highest score in one-day internationals.

Heath Streak New Zealand seemed assured of victory when Flower departed for 81 and the asking rate had climbed to 7.5 runs per over as the Zimbabweans chased New Zealand's total of 273 from 50 overs.

However, a whirlwind partnership of 69 off just 56 balls between Streak and Travis Friend helped put Zimbabwe on track as Streak smashed a massive six to reach 274 in 48.4 overs during the team's last partnership.

Earlier, Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to field.

A belligerent unbeaten 75 off just 52 balls by Craig McMillan was the feature of the New Zealand innings.

The Black Caps scored 273-9.

Opener Nathan Astle made 48 and captain Stephen Fleming 44.

Legspinner Brian Murphy took three for 43 off 10 overs, his best figures in one-day international cricket.
