North whip East

North Zone beat East Zone by 237 runs on the third day of their Duleep Trophy match at the Maligaon Railway stadium in Guwahati on Saturday.

For their outright victory, North Zone collected eight points.

East, chasing 394 to win, were all out for 156.

East began their second innings on a disastrous note this morning, losing opener Nikhil Haldipur, who was caught by substitute P Sharma off the bowling of Ashish Nehra with the score reading just 15.

Skipper Shiv Sundar Das and Rashmi Ranjan Parida tried to stabilise the innings to some extent before Das was caught by Nehra off Sodhi when the total was 64.

Parida was the next to go in the 19th over, scoring 19 runs when he was caught by Shahbag of Surendra Singh.

Thereafter, East's batsmen fell like nine-pins, with bastmen like Rohan Gavaskar, Sanjay Raul and Deep Dasgupta failing miserably. Gavaskar scored only six.

Rahul Sanghvi was the most successful bowler, claiming three wickets while Nehra, R S Sodhi and Sukhvinder Singh took three, two and one respectively.
