1865:
England all-rounder Bill Brockwell (7 Tests from 1893 to 1899) was born.

1888:
Australian captain and batsman Herbie Collins (19 Tests from 1920 to 1926; 1352 runs) was born.

1910:
The first ever Test match at Lord's, Durban was staged when South Africa took on England.

1911:
Australia's win by 530 runs against South Africa at Melbourne was the first by a margin exceeding 500 runs in Tests.

1939:
Eddie Paynter who scored 243 against England at Durban became the first batsman to score double hundreds against both Australia and South Africa.

1950:
Off-spinner Hugh Tayfield takes 7-23 as South Africa dismiss Australia for 75 runs.

1960:
New Zealand's left-handed batsman Phil Horne (4 Tests from 1987 to 1990) was born.

1970:
England leg-spinner Ian Salisbury (15 Tests from 1992 to 2000) was born.

1974:
South African batsman Ken Viljoen (27 Tests from 1930 to 1949) died aged 63.

1883:
England beat Australia at Melbourne by an innings and 27 runs - to record the first ever innings win in Tests.

1902:
Australian left-hander Clem Hill (97) became the first batsman to be dismissed in the nineties twice in a Test match at Adelaide - against England. (He had made 98 in the first innings).

1915:
New Zealand's left-arm spinner Tom Burtt (10 Tests from 1947 to 1953) was born.

1921:
West Indian batsman Andy Ganteaume (1 Test in 1948 scoring 112 runs) was born.

1948:
England off-spinner Jim Laker making his Test debut takes 7-103 in 37 overs against West Indies at Bridgetown.

1953:
Polly Umrigar (130) at Port of Spain became the first Indian to score a Test hundred in the Caribbean.

1978:
England's opening batsman Herbert Sutcliffe (54 Tests from 1924 to 1935; 4555 runs, avg. 60.73) died aged 83.

1990:
Wasim Akram (123) scores his maiden Test hundred against Australia at Adelaide.

1896:
South African left-arm pace bowler Alf Hall (7 Tests from 1923 to 1931; 40 wickets) was born in England.

1902:
Australia (315-6) became the first team in Test history to score over 300 runs in the fourth innings when it beat England by four wickets at Adelaide.

1929:
England pace bowler Ian Thomson (5 Tests from 1964 to 1965) was born.

1942:
Australian pace bowler Laurie Mayne (6 Tests from 1965 to 1970) was born.

1946:
Pakistan fast medium bowler Asif Masood (16 Tests from 1969 to 1977; 38 wickets) was born.

1947:
Australian batsman Roy Park (1 Test in 1920) died aged 54.

1948:
Don Bradman (201) became the first Australian to score a double hundred in Tests against India - at Adelaide. It was his 12th and last double hundred in Tests.

1952:
South African left-arm spinner Omar Henry (3 Tests from 1992 to 1993) was born.

1954:
Australian leg-spinner Trevor Hohns (7 Tests in 1989) was born.

1958: Pakistani Hanif Mohammad scores 337 in 970 minutes against West Indies at Bridgetown.

1960:
Australian batsman Greg Ritchie (30 Tests from 1982 to 1987; 1690 runs) was born.

1971:
New Zealand's keeper-batsman Adam Parore since 1990 with over 2500 Test runs was born.

1983:
England batsman Fred Bakewell (6 Tests from 1931 to 1935) died aged 74.

1891:
England medium pace bowler Alex Kennedy (5 Tests from 1922 to 1923; 31 Tests) was born. 1907: England's left-handed batsman Denis Smith (2 Tests in 1935) was born.

1910:
The Durban Test match between South Africa and England provided the first tie in the first innings of a Test match when both teams were dismissed for 199 in the first innings.

1912:
West Indian left-hander Ken "Bam Bam" Weekes (2 Tests in 1939) was born in Boston, USA.

1916:
West Indian batsman Vic Stollmeyer (1 Test in 1939, scored 96) was born.

1930:
Playing in their country's only second ever Test match New Zealand openers Stewie Dempster and John Mills put on 276 runs for the first wicket against England at Wellington. Dempster (136) went on to become the New Zealander to record a Test hundred.

1948:
Australia (674) records its then highest ever score in Tests - against India at Adelaide.

1957:
South African batsman Dan Taylor (2 Tests in 1914) died aged 70.

1968:
Zimbabwe all-rounder Mark Burmester (3 Tests in 1992) was born.

1970:
Zimbabwe all-rounder Neil Johnson (13 Tests from 1998 to 2000; 532 runs and 15 wickets) was born.

1973:
New Zealand left arm spinner Alan Lissette (2 Tests in 1956) died aged 53.

England batsman Bill Storer (6 Tests from 1897 to 1899) was born.

1906:
South African all-rounder Denys Morkel (16 Tests from 1927 to 1932; 663 runs and 18 wickets) was born.

1908:
England keeper WHV 'Hopper' Levett (1 Test in 1934) was born.

1910:
England's Neville Tufnell against South Africa at Durban became the first substitute to effect a stumping in Tests.

1915:
West Indian pace bowler John Trim (4 Tests from 1948 to 1951) was born.

1917:
England left-arm spinner Edwin Tyler (1 Test in 1896) died aged 52.

1925:
New Zealand's left-arm spinner Eric Dempster (5 Tests from 1953 to 1954) was born.

1952:
On a perfect pitch and with the temperature 105 degrees in the shade, 19 Australian and West Indian wickets fell for 180 runs on the first day at Sydney.

1976:
Indian left-hander Surinder Amarnath scores 124 on Test debut against New Zealand at Auckland. He emulates his father Lala Amarnath to become the first father-son combination to score Test hundreds in debut.

1979:
Zimbabwean pace bowler David Mutendera in 2000 was born.

1986:
New Zealand pace bowler Horace Smith (1 Test in 1933) died aged 73.

1861:
South African batsman Philip Hutchinson (2 Tests in 1889) was born in England.

1878:
South Africa's left-handed all-rounder AW 'Dave' Nourse (45 Tests from 1902 to 1924; 2234 runs and 41 wickets) was born.

1883:
England's Edmund Tylecote (66) against Australia at Sydney became the first wicket-keeper to score a fifty in Tests.

1903:
England batsman Geoffrey Legge (5 Tests in 1927 to 1930) was born.

1919:
Indian batsman KC Ibrahim (4 Tests from 1948 to 1949) was born.

1954:
Australian captain and batsman Kim Hughes (70 Tests from 1977 to 1984; 4415 runs) was born.

1957:
Indian batsman Ashok Malhotra (7 Tests from 1982 to 1985) was born.

1957:
Indian off-spinner Shivlal Yadav (35 Tests from 1979 to 1987; 102 wickets) was born.

1961:

Sri Lankan leg-break bowler Roshan Guneratne (1 Test in 1983) was born. 1962: Australian off-spinner Tim May (24 Tests from 1987 to 1995; 75 wickets) was born.

1963:
Australian all-rounder Simon O'Donnell (6 Tests in 1985) was born.

1968:
New Zealand pace bowler Chris Pringle (14 Tests from 1990 to 1995) was born.

1981:
India's Sandeep Patil scores 174 against Australia at Adelaide.

1989:
Australian batsman and captain Allan Border takes 7-46 against the West Indies at Sydney.

1891:
South African batsman Charlie Frank (3 Tests in 1921) was born.

1911:
England fast medium bowler George Pope (1 Test in 1947) was born.

1948:
Vijay Hazare (102 not out) became the first India to score hundreds in each innings of a Test match - against Australia at Adelaide - he remains the only batsman in Test history to do so on successive days.

1949:
Openers Alan Rae and Jeff Stollmeyer put on 239 runs at Madras - which still remains the best by any visiting team for the first wicket against India.

1964:
South Africans Eddie Barlow and Graeme Pollock put on 341 for the third wicket against Australia at Adelaide - which remains South Africa's best for any wicket in Tests.

1969:
New Zealand all-rounder Shane Thomson (19 Tests from 1990 to 1995; 958 runs and 19 wickets) was born.

1970:
England pace bowler Dean Headley since 1997 with over 50 Test wickets was born.

1970:
Indian wicket-keeper Probir Sen (14 Tests from 1948 to 1952) died aged 43.

1975:
Sri Lankan left-arm pace bowler Chaminda Vaas since 1994 with over 100 Test wickets was born.

1979:
New Zealand left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori since 1997 with over 100 Test wickets was born.

1996:
England leg-spinner Tommy Mitchell (5 Tests from 1933 to 1935) died aged 93.

1997:
England batsman David Townsend (3 Tests in 1935) died aged 84.
