Langer left out of first Test team

Australia have omitted Justin Langer from their team to play England in the first Ashes Test starting at Edgbaston on Thursday.

The left-hander has scored only 21 runs in four innings on tour with a highest score of 17. He is replaced by Damien Martyn, who is averaging 96 after scoring 384 runs.

Australia - Michael Slater, Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting, Mark Waugh, Steve Waugh (captain), Damien Martyn, Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne, Brett Lee, Jason Gillespie, Glenn McGrath.
