West Indies confirm 2002 opponents

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) on Wednesday confirmed next year's tour of the Caribbean by India and New Zealand.

In a news release, the WICB said it "confirmed the 2002 tours of the Caribbean by India for five Test matches and seven one-day internationals and by New Zealand for two Tests and three one-day internationals".

Meanwhile, the board expressed concern about the make-up of the panel of professional umpires proposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The board said that a panel of only eight professional umpires was too few to serve the sport globally, and it agreed to present a case for a larger pool.

Earlier on Wednesday, the WICB announced that it would elect a new president and vice-president in July.

Pat Rousseau and Clarvis Joseph quit their respective posts as president and vice-president last Saturday after the board reinstated sacked manager Ricky Skerritt.

An interim management committee had been formed to run the board until the elections, WICB executive secretary Andrew Sealy told CANA.
