Windies call in Garrick and Hinds

The West Indies have called in Jamaican batsmen Leon Garrick and Wavell Hinds to fill the vacancy left by the injured Brian Lara for the remainder of their African tour.

Lara, suffering from a recurring hamstring injury, left the West Indies' tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya last week on the eve of their opening triangular one-day series match against Zimbabwe.

Garrick made his Test and one-day international debut against South Africa in April after a prolific Busta Cup domestic season.

He will replace Lara for the remainder of the one-day tournament in Zimbabwe.

Hinds, already with the squad for the triangular series, will now stay on for the Tests in Zimbabwe and for the tour of Kenya.

Lara experienced discomfort during a warm-up game in Harare last Wednesday, and announced at a press conference two days later that he would leave the tour and get the necessary rest for full recovery.

"I think it is for the betterment of the team, myself, and West Indies cricket that I try to get myself fully fit again," Lara said.

West Indies beat Zimbabwe in their opening one-day game last weekend and will earn a spot in the final if they beat India in Bulawayo on Saturday.
