No place for Adams in West Indies Test squad
Sacked West Indies captain Jimmy Adams found himself unwanted as a batsman when he was excluded from the squad of 13 named on Monday for the first Test against South Africa.
The West Indies Cricket Board gave Adams's place to Shivnarine Chanderpaul, back after injury.
The bowling line-up remained undecided ahead of the Georgetown match starting on Friday. It depended on the condition of the pitch.
Four fast bowlers seem an unlikely option on the Bourda ground's placid surface and leg-spinner Dinanath Ramnarine appeared likely to make the team with off-spinner and new skipper Carl Hooper and Marlon Samuels as back up.
Hooper has not played international cricket since he retired in 1999. It will be his 81st Test.
Squad:
Carl Hooper (captain), Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Brian Lara, Marlon Samuels, Ridley Jacobs, Dinanath Ramnarine, Mervyn Dillon, Reon King, Nixon McLean, Courtney Walsh, Ramnaresh Sarwan.
