CAB windfall for Laxman

The Cricket Association of Bengal on Wednesday announced an award of Rs 200,000 to V V S Laxman for his spectacular double hundred -- the first by an Indian at the Eden Gardens -- in the second Test against Australia.

In a statement, CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya said Laxman, in addition to that ammount, will get Rs 1,000 for each run scored between 200 and 236, which was the highest score by an Indian in Tests, and Rs 2,000 for every run scored by him after 237 runs.

Sunil Gavaskar's unbeaten 236, in the first innings of the sixth and final Test against the West Indies, at Madras, in 1983-84, was the highest Test score by an Indian.
