Rajesh Pawar checks Punjab
Mumbai left arm spinner Rajesh Pawar scalped six wickets for 109 to restrict Punjab to 322 in their
second innings on the fourth day of the Ranji Trophy quarter-final, at the Wankhede Stadium, on Friday.
Set to get 421 runs for an outright win, the hosts were
85 for one off 13 overs, when stumps were drawn.
Punjab, who had taken a good 98-run first innings lead,
further consolidated their position with a 146-run opening stand by their overnight batsmen Ravneet Ricky (55 off 128 balls) and Munish Sharma (93 off 195 balls) before things
started happening for the home team.
Pawar drew first blood when he had Ricky caught at cover
by Jatin Paranjape and then followed it up by getting Sharma
caught at mid-on by Paras Mhambrey for a well made 93, which
included eleven hits to the boundary apart from three huge
sixes, in his 249-minutes stay at the wicket.
Soon after, medium pacer Santosh Saxena sent back Punjab
skipper Vikram Rathore when he had him caught by wicketkeeper
Amol Rane for 21.
Pankaj Dharmani (73 not out off 167 balls) and first
innings centurian Yuvraj Singh (33 off 76 balls) then added 66
runs for the fourth wicket off 25.1 overs before the latter
was trapped leg before by Sriram Kannan with the second new
ball which was taken after 85 overs.
