Jadeja case hearing postponed

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Justice Vijendra Jain of the Delhi High Court on Thursday deferred the hearing of the petition filed by cricketer Ajay Jadeja against the Board of Control for Cricket in India and six others till May 9, since some of the respondents had failed to file their affidavits within the stipulated time.

Senior counsel Kapil Sibal, who appeared on behalf of BCCI president Dr A C Muthaiah and the Board's commissioner (anti-corruption) K Madhavan, handed over the affidavits of his clients to the court this morning.

However, respondent number one, the Union of India, and four others, failed to file their affidavits in time, prompting Justice Jain to defer the hearing to May 9.

Justice Jain gave the respondents three weeks to file their affidavits, and two weeks after that for R K Anand, counsel for Jadeja, to file his counter affidavits.

Ajay Jadeja made a brief appearance in court. "I don't know the legalities so I can't tell you what this means, but I will now see you on May 9", he said.

Talking about his wedding with Aditi Jaitly scheduled for March 30, Jadeja said that the likes of Kapil Dev, Bishan Singh Bedi, Tiger Pataudi and others have been invited. "I have invited all those who have been in touch, the marriage is a private affair and entry is by invitation only."

When asked why the media had not been invited, Jadeja said, "Those who have been on my side have been invited."

Asked about the timing of his wedding, Jadeja said, "You people have been writing that we have already got married. I decided to take the plunge and tie the knot so that these speculations come to an end once for all. The media need not be disappointed, we will give you pictures of the weddings, those who wish to can print them, those who like can ignore them."
