Bindra likely to face CBFS inquiry
Former Board of Control for Cricket in India president I S Bindra is likely to be interviewed by
a three-member Inquiry Commission, set up by the Cricketers' Benefit Fund Series, regarding his allegation that a match between India and New Zealand at Sharjah was fixed, a UAE newspaper claimed on Tuesday.
The Gulf News said the commission, which comprises former West Indies
skipper Clive Lloyd, former director of the United Kingdom's Serious Fraud office George Staple and UAE General Director for Criminal Security Brig Mohammed K al Mualla, has already
prepared an interim report and submitted it to the International Cricket Council.
Controversial former Pakistan pace bowler Sarfaraz Nawaz will appear before the commission in London next week.
Sarfaraz had alleged that former CBFS chief coordinator and compatriot Asif Iqbal was the main match-fixer. In fact, after Sarfaraz levelled match-fixing allegations against the CBFS, the Sharjah-based organisation filed a libel suit against him in
a Pakistani court. The commission is likely to ask Sarfaraz to substantiate his allegations.
The newspaper also quoted reliable sources as saying that the commission also interviewed Sri Lanka skipper Sanath Jayasuriya and Pakistan cricketers Saeed Anwar and Shahid Afridi.
The commission may also question former England captain Adam Hollioake, who had said that he was once approached by a bookie at the team's hotel in Sharjah.
