Wrist-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed took eight for 49 on Saturday as Pakistan beat British Universities by an innings and 87 runs on the second day of their three-day tour match at Trent Bridge.

Mushtaq Ahmed Mushtaq claimed the first eight wickets in the students' second innings to finish with match figures of 10-51.

Fast bowler Mohammed Sami snapped up the last two batsmen as the Universities were bowled out for 155 with half an hour remaining on day two. Opener Will Jefferson top-scored with 40.

Earlier, Pakistan resumed on their overnight score of 224 for four and, despite losing four wickets for just five runs in the morning, they were eventually bowled out for 316.

Captain Waqar Younis, batting at number nine, made a whirlwind 50 not out while Tim Murtagh was the pick of the Universities attack with a return of six for 86.

Murtagh triggered the initial collapse when he had Saleem Elahi caught behind for 78 and Pakistan lost five wickets in seven overs.

Younis Khan, for 32, and Mushtaq Ahmed, for no score, were both caught by Jamie Dalrymple playing loose drives off Chris Elstub. In between, spinner Rob Ferley dismissed Wasim Akram, for three, and Rashid Latif, for two, in the same over. Having

Captain Waqar boosted the total to 316 with his aggressive 50 not out in only 59 balls before Murtagh removed tailender Sami for 15.

Trailing by 242, Universities began their second innings with some promise as they reached 50 without loss. Jefferson made 39 of those, including seven fours, but he managed just another single before he was trapped leg before by Mushtaq.

The spinner then dismissed Michael Brown for 19 before he removed both Matt Banes, for 19, and James Pyemont, for four, shortly before tea.
