Giles set to miss first test

England spinner Ashley Giles is set to miss the first test against Pakistan after failing to recover from a long-standing Achilles tendon injury.

The problem dogged the Warwickshire left-armer during England's recent tours of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Giles quoted by the BBC, said: "I haven't started running yet, so playing at Lord's does look very unlikely."

The Lord's test starts on May 17, with the second at Old Trafford beginning on May 31.

Giles came to prominence in topping the England bowling during the tour to Pakistan at the end of last year, taking 17 wickets to set up a 1-0 series win.
