Vengsarkar, Elf sign fresh deal

Elf Lubricants (India) Limited and former Indian skipper Dilip Vengsarkar signed a three-year deal to train young boys at the Elf Vengsarkar Cricket Academy at the southern end of Bombay's famous Oval maidan.

Elf India managing director and CEO Nicholas J Wellman said his company is committed to support junior cricket in India in association with Vengsarkar despite its association with motor sports in other parts of the world.

Nicholas J Wellman and Dilip Vengsarkar "Elf is associated with motor sports in other parts of the world. When the idea to support Vengsarkar, who had thought of starting an academy for the juniors in Mumbai, came up in 1995 we immediately felt it was a great idea. Cricket is a passion in India and we are happy to be associated with the game", Wellman said, adding his firm has plans to be associated with a national under-14 tournament within a year or so.

Vengsarkar, who was appointed chairman of the recently-formed Talent Resources Development Officers' Committee, said he is happy to renew his association with Elf Lubricants, which has been supporting his academy since 1995.
