Kirtley's action under the spotlight

England seamer James Kirtley has had his bowling action questioned by International Cricket Council match referee Colonel Naushad Ali after Wednesday's five-wicket victory over Zimbabwe.

Kirtley took two for 33 in 9.1 overs on his debut in the first one-day international but will have a nervous wait over question marks about his action ahead of the second match on Saturday.

"I had a look at him," Pakistan's Ali said on Thursday. "The umpires were not in favour of doing anything but I would like another look at him. We would certainly like to observe him on Saturday."

The England team management would not make any comment until they had a chance to review the situation with the referee and English officials.

Kirtley had his action called into question last season, but was cleared by the English Cricket Board (ECB) after tests at Brighton University.
