South Africa omit Kirsten and Nel

Opening batsman Gary Kirsten and strike bowler Andre Nel have been omitted by South Africa for Sunday's triangular series one-day match against Kenya.

The United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA) said on Friday that Kirsten was suffering from a right thigh strain but was expected to rejoin the squad before they take on India in East London next Friday.

"Nel is being rested in accordance with the policy of rest and rotation for squad members," UCBSA communications director Bronwyn Wilkinson said.

"The decision also allows the selectors to have a look at some of the other squad members who have yet to play in the triangular tournament," Wilkinson said.

Nel took the opportunity to start a four-day game for his province Easterns against North West in South Africa's domestic first-class tournament on Friday.
