Nehra, Zaheer fit to tour

Faisal Shariff

Board of Control for Cricket in India physician Dr Anant Joshi on Tuesday morning cleared India's frontline seamers Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra for the tour of South Africa.

The two were put through a strenuous physical test this morning by the board's doctor, with the selectors watching. At the end of it, Dr Joshi pronounced that both seamers were completely fit.

Khan played through the recent tour of South Africa with a shin injury and then missed the ongoing one-day triangular series against host South Africa and Kenya through not having recovered in time. Ashish Nehra for his part was last seen in the triangular ODI series in Sri Lanka preceeding the Tests, but left at the end of that series to nurse a groin strain.

This morning's fitness test was the last hurdle in the way of their selection for the South African tour.

The national selection committee is expected to meet at the Cricket Club of India premises later this morning to pick the squad.
