Sri Lanka knock Zimbabwe out of Champions Trophy

Sri Lanka on Tuesday ousted Zimbabwe from the three-nation Champions Trophy being held in Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) with a convincing 79-run defeat.

This is Zimbabwe's 15th consecutive defeat in ODIs since June.

Though Zimbabwe had managed to restrict Sri Lanka to 250, they failed to capitalise on the advantage and managed to make just 171 for eight in the allotted 50 overs.

The Lankans' emphatic victory also assured Pakistan a place in the final though two league matches remain to be played.

On Wednesday, Zimbabwe will take on Pakistan in their last league match. In the last league match on Friday, Sri Lanka will face off with Pakistan.

The final is on Sunday.
