No play possible in three-day tie

With rain playing spoilsport, the three-day game between the Indians and South Africa 'A' was formally called off on Wednesday without a ball being bowled.

Whatever little chances were left of the match being played as a one-day game literally went down the drain after thudershowers on Tuesday evening.

It left the visitors' planning before the first Test, on Staurday at Bloemfontein, in total disarray.

There are four cricketers in the team who have not played a game since they joined the Test squad on October 26. They are Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan, Sameer Dighe and opener Connor Williams.

But for the last two matches in the triseries, star batsman V V S Laxman too has had little hitting out in the middle since he joined the team.

The Indians leave for Bloemfontein on Thursday.
