Kumble hopeful of contract system taking off

Leg spinner Anil Kumble expressed hope that the new contract system for players would be implemented from the forthcoming South African tour.

"Hopefully," he said, when reporters asked him if the system would come into being from the tour.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India's working committee, at its meeting in Bombay on August 25, had decided that the new contract system would come into effect with the tour of South Africa.

Earlier, Kumble had net practice at the Karnataka State Cricket Association grounds and had a long chat with coach John Wright.

Kumble has been out of international cricket for nearly a year but now hopes to return to the side for the South African tour.
