Adams hopes for Windies recall

Former West Indies captain Jimmy Adams, who was axed following the 5-0 series whitewash by Australia earlier this year, is not giving up hope of representing West Indies again.

"I would like to play international cricket at some point in the future," Adams said on Tuesday.

"It is still a possibility given my age, but right now I'm just focussing on the next six months."

But the 33-year-old Adams, who will travel to South Africa this week to take up a six-month contract as captain of Free State, could rule himself out of selection in the near future.

His South African contract means he will miss next month's domestic limited-overs competition and most of the Busta Cup early next year.

Under West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) rules, players must be available for the WICB's competitions to be eligible for selection.

Adams, who has been playing first class cricket since 1984 and had played 54 test matches, said he was approaching the South African challenge with enthusiasm.

"It's a new challenge and I think it has come for me at the right time. It's something that I have been looking forward to doing at some point and I think this is as good a time as any."

Adams led West Indies to test series victories over Zimbabwe and Pakistan before losing consecutive series to England and Australia.
