Allan Donald out of Zimbabwe games

Fakir Hassen

Pace bowler Allan Donald will again be absent from the South African side when they play one-day internationals against Zimbabwe on September 29 and 30, following a bout of flu.

He missed the last two Test matches against Zimbabwe also due to flu.

Allan Donald "He has a second bout of flu and we have been advised to let him get at least three to four weeks of rest to recover properly," Rushdie Magiet, convenor of national selectors at the United Cricket Board of South Africa, said.

Donald has been out of action for most of the games in the last season, after being dogged by a variety of injuries.

Donald's continued absence has now raised doubts about his reported determination to end his career by playing for his country in the 2003 Cricket World Cup, to be hosted by South Africa.

Magiet, however, assured the media when he announced the team for the Zimbabwean matches here Monday that Donald would be back.

The full team for Zimbabwe is:
Shaun Pollock (captain), Mark Boucher (vice-Captain), Boeta Dippenaar, Herschelle Gibbs, Claude Henderson, Jacques Kallis, Justin Kemp, Gary Kirsten, Lance Klusener, Neil McKenzie, Andre Nel, Makhaya Ntini, Justin Ontong and Jonty Rhodes.

Magiet hoped the three backups would also get a chance to play.

He also announced the South African "A" squad to play one-day matches against India at Benoni (east of Johannesburg) on October 3, and against Kenya at the mainly Indian township of Laudium, near Pretoria, on October 9.

This team comprises H.D. Ackerman (captain), Boeta Dippenaar, Gerald Dros, Justin Kemp, Jon Kent, Charl Langeveldt, Mfuneko Ngam, Justin Ontong, Jacques Rudolph, Roger Telemachus, Thami Tsolikile and Martin van Jaarsveld.

The selectors will meet October 1 to choose the South African "A" team to play a four-day match against India November 10. They will also choose the squad for the triangular series.
