Mohandas Menon

Ind vs Zim - 1st Test, Nagpur.

About the city:
Known as the 'city of oranges', Nagpur, is a bustling city located in central India, in the Vidarbha region of the state of Maharashtra. Situated on the Nag River, it was the capital of the Maratha kingdom in the 18th century. Later it became the capital of the newly formed Madhya Pradesh state in 1950, until it was passed on to Maharashtra in 1960.

About the ground:
Although cricket has been played in this city from the turn of the last century, it gained importance during the 1920s when the popular Central Provinces Quadrangular was played here. However it was only in October 1969, the ground had the privilege of staging an international match - the second Test between India and New Zealand.

The next Test was then played fourteen years later, in 1983 when the Pakistanis were the visitors. Since then the Vidarbha Cricket Association stadium, which can accommodate about 42, 000 spectators, has in all hosted six Test matches and ten limited over internationals matches from 1985 to 2000.
