India tour is on: Lamb

The second leg of England cricket team's tour of India involving six on-dayers will go on as scheduled, English Cricket Chief Tim Lamb said today.

"The one-day leg of the England tour in India is not under threat, despite the prospect of military action in the region," Lamb told BBC Radio Four's 'Today' programme.

Lamb said the Foreign Office and British High Commission had given assurances over security. "Whilst they are obviously concerned about the escalation of the situation, they say there is no reason why the tour should not proceed," Lamb said. "We will monitor the situation closely and I will be speaking to my contact at the High Commission later this week.

"If the situation deteriorates we may have to make a decision but at the moment there is no reason why the tour should not go ahead. " Reports of a massive military build-up along India's border with Pakistan have raised security fears once again in the sub-continent.

Similar doubts were raised before the Test series last month due to the U.S.-led military action in Afghanistan. The England team is due to leave for the tour on January 10.
