Vaughan hoping to improve one-day record

England batsman Michael Vaughan hopes to demonstrate he can perform as well in the one-day arena as he has in Test matches during the six-match series against India starting on Saturday.

Vaughan, 27, who scored 106 runs at an average of 53.00 in the 1-0 series loss to India last year, has scored only 42 runs in six one-day internationals.

"I'm not a great one-day player but I hope to redeem that and get some good form going," he told reporters on Tuesday.

"I've only played six one-day matches. My record isn't great at the moment but I'm looking to work on it during the Indian series."

Vaughan emphasised the importance of fielding in the upcoming series.

"Fielding is going to be a vital part of the series and we really look forward to playing some great cricket," he said.

England, who returned to India last week after a Christmas break following the Tests, have complained about poor practice facilities in Calcutta.

But Vaughan said conditions were good at the venue for the series opener, Eden Gardens, which seats over 100,000 people.

"It's a good atmosphere and a good pitch, hopefully it will be a good game," he said.

England play their last match in India in Bombay in early February after which they travel to New Zealand for a Test and one-day series.
