NZ v SL U-19 World Cup match abandoned
Heavy rain forced the abandonment of the opening match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup between hosts New Zealand and Sri Lanka on Saturday.
Sri Lanka won the toss and batted at Lincoln, near Christchurch, reaching 85 for two in 19.5 overs before light drizzle led to heavy rain.
The match was eventually abandoned at 1610 local time.
Sixteen teams are taking part in the tournament.
In group A, being played in Auckland, are India (the defending champions), South Africa, Bangladesh and Canada.
Group B at Lincoln comprises New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
In group C in Christchurch are England, Pakistan, Nepal and Papua New Guinea.
Group D in Dunedin contains Australia, West Indies, Scotland and Kenya.
On Sunday, Bangladesh play South Africa, Zimbabwe take on Namibia, Pakistan meet Papua New Guinea and Australia play Kenya.
