Security beefed up for Ganguly

Security has been beefed up around cricket captain Sourav Ganguly's house in Kolkata following Tuesday's shoot-out in front of the American Center which left four security personnel dead.

The decision to provide special security to the Indian captain's residence in the southern part of the city was taken after a high-level meeting between the South 24 Parganas Superiendent of Police Deb Kumar Ganguly and West Bengal Police DG, Dinesh Vajpai on Thursday.

A top police official said following the attack on the American Center and in view of the Republic Day alert in the state, top police brass reviewed the security arrangements at Ganguly's house and decided to post more securitymen on duty.

The offical said a posse of nine policemen, including four armed personel, will be put on round-the-clock vigil at Ganguly's sprawling mansion in Behala area until further orders.

Apart from the special arrangements around his house, Ganguly will get extra security cover whenever he is in town.
