Security beefed up at Tendulkar's residence

Armed policemen have been deployed round-the-clock at the residences of ace cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly following reports that Dubai-based don Aftab Ansari, who claimed responsibility for the recent attack on the American Center in Kolkata, planned to kidnap them.

However, no additional security has been provided to noted nuclear scientist Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, the father of India's missile programme, despite a report in a leading New Delhi newspaper that Ansari was planning his assassination.

Besides Mumbai police, Tendulkar has also sought the services of a private security agency to guard his residence located near Mount Mary Church in suburban Bandra.

Security at the south Kolkata residence of Ganguly has also been tightened.

Senior West Bengal police officers, however, said the security at Ganguly's residence was not a new development.
