Waugh brothers in World Cup contention

Australia's Test captain Steve Waugh and his twin brother Mark could force their way into the country's one-day team for next year's World Cup in South Africa, selector Allan Border said.

The Waughs were dropped from the limited-overs side at the end of last season but have vowed to fight their way back.

"If they're playing for New South Wales next year they're in our thoughts, that's all I can say on it," Border told reporters.

"Whoever's playing first-class cricket, they're in the hunt. They're very determined blokes aren't they, so anything can happen".

Border also announced he was planning to follow Ian Botham's lead and walk from Sydney to Brisbane in October to raise funds for sick and disadvantaged children.

The former Australian captain said he would leave Sydney on October 8 and hoped to complete the 1,000-km trip north to Brisbane in time for the first Ashes Test starting on November 7.

Former England all-rounder Botham has raised millions of pounds for charity on a string of long-distance charity walks.
