Srinath's absence will
be felt: Kapil

Former India captain Kapil Dev says the absence of seasoned speedster Javagal Srinath is bound to affect the Indian team's performance on their ongoing tour of England.

Kapil, who was in Lucknow on Thursday to promote a television channel, said the team will surely feel the absence of the experienced Karnataka seamer, who recently announced his retirement from Test cricket.

He, however, was quick to add that the current crop of youngsters handling the pace attack have the potential to win matches at the international level.

Kapil denied having said that some members of the Indian team, including Sachin Tendulkar, lay emphasis on individual performance.

"I merely said that it is better if the players lay stress on team performance. It is no good if the team loses the game despite a good individual performance," he averred.

Asked about the frequent changes in the opening combination, he said it does not matter as long as the team wins matches.

He also felt there is nothing wrong with ace batsman Rahul Dravid keeping wickets, "as long as he does the job efficiently".
