SA name squad for Morocco tournament

South Africa's new selection panel, chaired by former all rounder Omar Henry, named a provisional 18-man squad for a triangular one-day cricket tournament in Morocco in August.

Henry and new coach Eric Simons, also a former international all rounder, are expected to drop three or four players from the squad which will travel to Tangiers on August 12 for a tournament also featuring Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

"When we reduce the squad we will take everything into account, including fitness," Henry said. "We have not yet decided on the size of the squad."

Fourteen of the 18 players will gather for a winter training camp in Durban from July 17-19 before meeting again at the end of July.

Captain Shaun Pollock and spinner Nicky Boje will not attend because of county commitments in England, while fast bowler Allan Donald and spinner Paul Adams are also excused while playing for club sides in England.

Four further players were invited to attend the camp but are not in the running for selection to play in the Morocco tournament. They are wicketkeepers Thami Tsolekile and Kruger van Wyk and fast bowlers Mfuneko Ngam and Mornantau Hayward.

Squad: Shaun Pollock, Paul Adams, Nicky Boje, Mark Boucher, Boeta Dippenaar, Allan Donald, Steve Elworthy, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Gary Kirsten, Justin Kemp, Lance Klusener, Neil McKenzie, Makhaya Ntini, Justin Ontong, Jonty Rhodes, Graeme Smith, Roger Telemachus.
