Nairobi triangular series under fresh cloud

A troubled triangular cricket series set to be played in Nairobi after being switched from Pakistan looks to be under a fresh cloud just 24 hours after final confirmation on who would play.

Pakistan, world champions Australia and Kenya are due to contest the series from August 29-September 7.

Now the problem is who will do the Kenyan side of the organising.

Minister of Sport Francis Nyenze wants it to be the National Sports Council and a caretaker committee he set up on May 17.

That was the day Nyenze dissolved the cricket governing body - the Kenya Cricket Association (KCA) - amid allegations of financial mismanagement.

However, the High Court in Nairobi has since overturned the minister's decision and reinstated elected officials.

A top KCA official said on Tuesday: "We are legally in office and the Pakistan Cricket Board must only deal with us."

Pakistan, still seen as the series hosts, were forced to switch the event to Kenya after Australian concern over security. Kenya stepped in for New Zealand whose calendar was too busy.

The KCA official said: "We wouldn't care less if the series were cancelled but we shall not abdicate our role as legally-elected officials to some imposters.

"We are meeting today and we shall issue a comprehensive statement tomorrow."

Minister Nyenze and the National Sports Council chairman Josha Okuthe left on Monday for the Commonwealth Games in England.
