Shoulder injury puts Sehwag out

India's explosive batsman Virender Sehwag suffered a shoulder injury while fielding on day four in the second Test against Zimbabwe and is expected to be out of action for two weeks.

Opener Shiv Sunder Das replaces him in the team for the first three matches of the five-match one-day series, beginning at Faridabad on Friday.

Fielding at mid-on during Zimbabwe's second innings, Sehwag dived forward for a difficult catch from Grant Flower off Anil Kumble and, in the process, landed on his left shoulder. He apparently realised that he had hurt himself badly and frantically waved towards the pavilion seeking help. Physio Andrew Leipus rushed to the field and, after assesing the situation, had the Delhi batsman taken out on a stretcher. He was later rushed to Apollo hospital.

Dr Yash Gulati, who is attending on him, said Sehwag had suffered an injury on the 'A-C joint' of his left shoulder, a 'grade II' injury.

"He needs rest for at least a couple of weeks but his actual recovery time can only be assessed after an MRI scan is taken on him," he said.

Meanwhile, the national selection committee met and decided to bring Das into the 14-member Indian squad in place of Sehwag, BCCI vice-president C K Khanna informed.
